The Capitol rumor mill is in overdrive, and while it's true that Salem is the place where truth goes to take a vacation, one thing is certain, the fight to stop universal gun owner registration is far from over.

As we told you, it looked like SB 941, the gun owner harassment act of 2015, might be on the House Floor as early as today. While things can change at lightning speed when gun grabbers want to bend the rules, as of right this minute the bill is not even scheduled for a "Second Reading" which usually happens the day before it's voted on. What does this mean for us?

It can only mean one thing. They don't yet have the votes to ram it through.  As you know, this bill has been fast tracked from the beginning. Bypassing all normal scheduling, the anti-rights zealots have done all they can to race this bill forward. Now it looks like it might be as late as Monday before it is voted on. It could even be later.

This means that your tireless efforts are having an effect and some Democrats are having second thoughts about their career futures should they vote for this deranged attack on your rights.

To be sure, there are plenty who continue to parrot the mindless lies about "dangerous loopholes" and "internet gun trafficking" even when they know what they are saying is false.  Michael Bloomberg continues to throw vast amounts of money on a media onslaught against liberty, but... if Val Hoyle had this nailed down, they would have voted on it already.

That's why now is the time to turn up the heat. If you've been working hard at contacting legislators, we are going to ask you to do it again. If you've never made your voice heard, now is the time to do it.

As we told you on Monday, there are a handful of Democrats who we think need to hear from you now.

We've listed them below but want to add one more to our previous list. Please also contact Rep. Paul Evans. His phone number is 503-986-1420, email   Rep.PaulEvans@state.or.us

Evans is no friend of gun owners. His rant in the hard left blog "Blue Oregon" shows just how extreme he is. In it, he calls for registration of "automatic weapons," (which he defines as  "hand guns as well as rifles,") with the county sheriffs.

Aside from how much he demonstrates his ignorance of firearms and current law, he also calls for amending the US Constitution to redefine the Second Amendment. However, we have reason to believe Evans would like to portray himself as pro-gun. So he's wavering.  Please contact Evans, and the legislators below, with a message that your rights are not negotiable.   Sample text follows after the contact info for the other House Reps who need to hear from you.

Rep Brent Barton  503-986-1440   Rep.BrentBarton@state.or.us

Rep Deborah Boone  503-986-1432  rep.deborahboone@state.or.us

Rep Brian Clem  503-986-1421    rep.brianclem@state.or.us

Rep Betty Komp   503-986-1422 rep.bettykomp@state.or.us

Rep Caddy McKeown  503-986-1409 Rep.CaddyMcKeown@state.or.us

Rep  Brad Witt     503- 986-1431  Rep.BradWitt@state.or.us

_________________________________________
Dear Representative,

The supporters of SB 941 have made it clear that this bill will not stop criminals. In fact, the Oregon State Police report that they virtually never take action against prohibited people who try to buy guns. So who does this bill actually affect? People like me. People who obey the law. People who want to be able to safely store a firearm for a friend or neighbor. People who want to be able to protect someone whose life is in danger. People who vote.

I am outraged that the promoters of this attack on my rights continue to lie about this bill. They continue to parrot the disproven claims about how many people want to have their privacy invaded and their names put in a government data base. They continue to repeat the lies about "unregulated internet gun sales" and they continue to call my rights "a loophole." I am not a criminal and will not be treated like one.

My rights, my privacy and my property are not "loopholes."   Vote no on SB 941.

Yours,

LTE ~ Why So Generous with the People’s Money?

Letter to the editor - Squabble

On April 13, we were told of the city of Coos Bay budget committee (apparently inclusive of most councilors and the mayor) “squabble” over donating more of the people’s money to the local Boys and Girls Club and to T.H.E. House – both organizations deserving of community support.

But, why is the council majority being so generous with the people’s money?  The city already has a contractual obligation to partially fund the Boys and Girls Club.  Honor it.  Isn’t this the same august government body who told us of a need for roads repair monies?  Aren’t these are the same tax and spend professional politicians who not long ago agreed to raise sewer rates; who intend to raise electricity fees; and who intend to raise the tax on a gallon of gasoline sold in Coos Bay.  Aren’t these the same people who practically gave away the peoples “Hollering Place” to a sovereign nation Indian tribe - with more of the people’s money to be spent on the property by the city?  Aren’t these the same people who have been pumping the people’s money into the Egyptian Theatre, and then they sold the theatre for one dollar after buying it for $400,000, with more than another $100,000 planned to be sent to the theatre?  Isn’t this the group who seem too eager to reject a proposed lower price wastewater treatment plant solution?  Isn’t this the same government body that promised our military neighbors to fly only the US flag along the boardwalk until all combatants came home from Iraq and Afghanistan and then they broke that promise?  Isn’t this the same group that has agreed to place what could be hundreds of millions of local tax dollars over which you now have total control to be under the control of a few unelected people of a private entity (SCCF) over which you will have no control?

What’s next?

Oregon Senate Passes Ivory Ban with one Republican Turncoat

04.28.15

The Oregon Senate, on an almost party line vote, today passed Senator Mark Hass's ivory ban bill. (Republican Brian Boquist voted with the Democrats.)

SB 913 will, with limited exception, ban the sale of ivory. While the bill purports to save African elephants from Al Qaeda terrorists (no really, that's what Hass stated on the Senate floor.)  what it actually does is destroy the value of property that may have been in your family for generations or that you acquired perfectly legally. Seems the Democrats are determined to steal as much of what you own as possible. While pretending to protect endangered species, the bill also outlaws the sale of mammoth tusks.   We have it on good authority that the mammoth is no longer on the endangered species list. Apparently Senator Hass is unaware of this.

The bill allows for an exception if the ivory makes up less than 20% of a gun or knife by volume. and you can document that the gun or knife was manufactured before 1976.  Of course this means that the amount of ivory in question is immaterial, only how much of the "volume" of a gun or knife it makes up.

Senator Alan Olsen asked Senator Hass a few questions about the bill. We'll share them in reverse order.

Olsen wanted to know how a person "documents" that the item in question was manufactured before 1976. For example, could you write a letter to yourself saying this was so?

Hass replied this was "up to law enforcement." But the far more astonishing answer was when Hass was asked how one determines the "volume" of a firearm.

Olsen simply asked "How do you measure the volume of a gun?" Hass's response after a long pause was: (not making this up) "By weight...or volume."

There you have it folks. You measure volume... by volume.  You are forgiven if you think we are doomed when people making laws  reason this way.

The bill also makes exceptions for some musical instruments. Just for a laugh someone should ask Hass how to measure the volume of a piano. The bill now moves to the House.

But while lunacy reigns in Salem, there is some hope on the local front.

Traci Brumbles and Ray Biggs will be on the ballot being mailed tomorrow, 4/29/15, for the Saint Helens School Board in District 502 of Columbia County.

Both Traci and Ray are supporters of the Constitution, the 2nd Amendment and are friends of OFF. Ray is an incumbent and was instrumental in the repeal of the district policy that refused to allow staff and volunteers to carry concealed handguns on school grounds though perfectly legal under state law.

Both of these candidates could use your support and. if you live in the district, please consider casting your vote for them. If you have questions for them, Traci can be contacted at idoliquor@msn.com (liquor agent) and Ray can be reached at 503-397-6061 .

NEXT BRUSH AND YARD DEBRIS PICKUP – JUNE 8

The next brush and yard debris removal event will be held Monday, June 8. Bandon Disposal will pick up piles of brush and yard debris. City residents are allowed up to a maximum of five cubic yards of brush and yard debris (approximately two pickup loads) at no cost. Simply place your brush and yard debris in the right-of-way alongside the street adjacent to your house prior to Monday, June 8, and Bandon Disposal will pick it up.

If you get missed, contact Bandon Disposal at 541-347-9633 and let them know. Please make sure that your brush is in one pile, since there is a maximum of one pile per address, and no group piles. Keep in mind that this program is for woody yard debris such as branches, brush, gorse, etc., so other items and materials such as metals, appliances, furniture, etc. will not be accepted. Branches must be cut into lengths no longer than five feet. Grass clippings and leaves will also be picked up, provided they are placed in biodegradable paper bags. No plastic bags can be accepted. Also, please avoid placing your pile under overhead utility lines or overhanging trees, since a boom truck is used to pick up the debris. Locate your pile away from fire hydrants and utility boxes, and do not impede sidewalks or pedestrian walkways.

If you have more than five cubic yards of debris, or if you want debris picked up at times other than the three brush removal events, please contact Bandon Disposal at 541-347-9633 for a price quote.

LTE ~ Coos Bay Officials bring Citizens in Line by Taxing Them

4/24/2015

Subject: Letter to Editor
Current batch of Coos Bay Officials bring Citizens in line by taxing and feeing them. What Officials? City councilors, power hungry to spend, and choose. Increase electricity franchise fees, direct pass through to Citizens, a gas tax, for 20 years of undone road maintenance.  The World editor, advocates tax ourselves.

Councils believed the 30 percent of property tax revenue available to the city general fund has no value for roads and sewer upgrades, would require disbanding the UR districts, thus, their UR power.

We held our meeting and no one came, the Committees and Councilors miss read the no vote of confidence, and proceeded with their agenda, after funding consultant.

Two Sewage plants, smaller, Empire, cannot pump sewage to larger main plant, must be rebuild, next to current functional plant. A change order, of plant pumps sludge, in three pipes, to main plant.  Just upgrade main plant, pump excess, sewage from Empire, current facility, to finished processing in main plant. Main plant already on drawing board for upgrade.

Councilors took a loan from DEQ, to build new Empire plant, processed it through City Hall, and have tasked the Citizens with fees to pay it back.

Prior Councils, vote bonded a fire station. Two fire stations, not enough unless one is new. Now, two big to run, isolated, not centrality located for response time to cover low staffing, possible closure of Empire station. Mom, send money quick.

Prior Councils rebuild Library, City Hall, the last building standing earth quake standard, the Visitor Center, build City Dock, blocking view. Also, gave Urban Renewal, UR tax dollars to individuals as grants, and to businesses as facade improvements.

Property Tax revenue increase by 3 percent  every year, but never enough.
Wife says don’t mention that buzz word, $$$$ Curb Appeal, OK, I won’t.

LTE ~ LNG Pipeline Man and His Bag of Money

Letter for The World newspaper editors mail box
Google “Baksheesh”.  How business has been done since camels first traveled the Silk Road; how it’s being done now; how it will be done in the future.  During an earlier time, I carried a few bags of my employer’s money somewhere on this planet.

Can you be bought?  I can – for the right 8 figure number; certainly not for a chance at $5,000.

After we have experienced all possible to divide our community in two over the proposed LNG factory matter; suddenly, out of nowhere, comes the pipeline man with his bag of money; a man who will make many hundreds of millions of dollars from the proposed 36 inch pipeline across your, and apparently former Coos County Commissioner Messerle’s, farm land.

I am neither for nor against a local LNG factory.  But, I refuse to let my neighbors be bamboozled.  According to The World newspaper of 25 March, page A2, for reasons unknown, the pipeline man will undertake the distribution of a few “up to” $5,000 grants to a few local “eligible” non - profits that are coincidentally located in communities along the planned pipeline route – provided your organization has neither a political or religious affiliation.  Who defines “eligible”; and, could be $20.

Did you choke when you read that the pipeline man wants to give his small bag of money for many things dear to the opposition of his pipeline such as “enhancement of open space”; for “enrichment of wildlife habitats”; for “purchases of property to access public lands”?  Wouldn’t a less costly solution be not to lay the pipeline?

Could it be that the pipeline man wants to be seen as Santa, hoping that you will look the other way while your neighbor’s property is being seized through the eminent domain process for the benefit of a private Canadian company?

Isn’t this an appropriate time to be asking - Do you really want to be bought for a few pieces of silver?

CWA ~ Meeting Agenda and News Monday April 27, 2015‏

Hello Council and Friends,

We are excited to tell you about our upcoming Executive Council meeting featuring a Special Presentation from The Go Native Project at Bandon High School. Come on out Monday, April 27, at 7pm, and hear what local students are doing to make the watershed a better place!

Below is some news SWOCC sent us about their new associate of science degree program with forestry emphasis:

Coos County invests grant money in workforce development

Coos Bay, OR – The Coos County Economic Development Fund is investing in workforce development at Southwestern Oregon Community College through a $17,000 grant to the SWOCC Foundation, in support of the new associate of science degree program with forestry emphasis. Coos County joins with South Coast businesses and statewide organizations that have contributed to build the Forestry/Natural Resources Program. SWOCC enrolled its first class of students in September and this grant will support the expansion and improvement of the program into its second year.

“The forestry profession has an increasing need for highly trained workers. In fact, the state predicts up to an 11 percent increase in demand for foresters by 2022,” said Mark Wall, SWOCC Foundation president. “SWOCC is uniquely positioned to provide access to that training.” This collaboration between the SWOCC Foundation, private industry and Coos County ensures the College will provide future natural resource industry specialists with the highest-quality instruction and equipment. The college’s new degree program will accept 25 students per year. Students who complete this two-year degree at SWOCC will be ready for entry-level jobs or can transfer as juniors to the Oregon State University Pro School of Forestry bachelor’s degree program.

And I attached the announcement from Beyond Toxics about their upcoming Bee Jubilee in Portland on April 30, contact info here: http://www.beyondtoxics.org/events/bee-jubilee-gala

Agenda for Monday attached, hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Kelly

BOC Considers Second Amendment Preservation Ordinance May 5, 2015

4/21/2015

Comments

Picture
Hello Second Amendment Supporters,

Antigun zealots in the Oregon legislature are barreling ahead with SB941, the expanded background checks bill and the house has scheduled a hearing today, Wednesday, at 3 pm in HR 50 in the House Rules Committee.  You can send a written testimony to this email address:  hrules.exhibits@state.or.us

The law is a mechanism to get every gun registered with the state government.  Registration will lead to confiscation and history will back that fact.  They fear you and that is the real reason the political elite want to take away your ability to defend yourself and your family.

Knowing their intentions the people of Coos County have to use every political avenue at our disposal to protect the Second Amendment.

Currently, we have gathered about 1000 signatures to put the Second Amendment Preservation Ordinance on the books as law in Coos County.  We were hoping to put this on the ballot in September, but that may not be in time to preempt the passage of SB941 by the state.

Since time is of the essence, our group has asked the Coos County Board of Commissioners to put the item on the agenda to discuss enacting the ordinance through a vote of the board.  It would mean the ordinance could be law immediately of their vote, and it would save the county from having to pay for a September election, which could cost up to forty grand.

The Chair of the Board, Bob Main, requested the item for Tuesday May 5, 2015 in the Owen Building in Coquille at the next regularly scheduled meeting.

Now we need your help!

Please try to show up to this meeting and demand the commissioners to do everything possible to protect our Second Amendment rights and vote in favor of the Second Amendment Ordinance.

Please return as many signatures that you can gather between now and May 5 then bring the petition sheets to the commissioner’s meeting where the group will collect them, so we can show the board the amount of public support there is in our community for individual rights.  We will continue to gather signatures until the Second Amendment Preservation Ordinance is law in Coos County, because there is a good chance the Board will not move to enact it.

Our group’s intention is not to cost the county money, or to cause political turmoil for the commissioners.  Our only goal is to protect the right of the people to bear arms, but procedural barriers limit our recourses of action.

Consumers,
Earlier this month, 60 representatives of multinational corporations completed the latest round of negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which is The Mother of all Free Trade Agreements.
Since 2008, industry representatives have been secretly discussing a lucrative trade agreement that will be binding on all nations that sign.  Currently believed to include about a dozen nations, they designed it to be a multilateral agreement that an unlimited number of countries bound to unelected "Representatives."
Worse yet, Wyden the Weasel sold us out again---all for his cronies.  It gives capitalism a real bad name.

Remember the consequences of NAFTA.  Our leaders are selling this as capitalism, but it is international cronyism ~ fascism.  Free trade does not need a 10,000-word contract regulating and restricting the production and consumption of the people.

Please attend the teach-in/discussion/rally on TPP and Fast Track

OFF ~ SB941 GUN GRAB PASSES SENATE ‏ Call State Representative Not over Yet

4/15/2015

04.14.15

With no surprises, the Oregon Senate today passed SB 941, the universal gun owner registration bill.

Republicans made numerous motions to act on bills that would actually have a positive effect on the lives of Oregonians.

These included bills that would provide funds for improving mental health treatment, protecting the victims of sex trafficking. and aiding law enforcement in counties crushed by regulations that prevent them from generating revenue from natural resources.  Every Senate Democrats voted against every single motion.

Senator Diane Rosenbaum used a procedural move to shut the Republicans down and force immediate consideration of the bill.

In the course of the floor debate it became clear that the chief sponsor of the bill, Floyd Prozanski, either had no idea what was in his bill or was willing to openly lie about it. He answered numerous questions with answers that were patently false.

The usual false statistics were trotted out by the anti-gunners.  The truth about what this bill will do was hidden. The complications and contradictions contained in the bill were lied about.

Senator Elisabeth Hayward, who has admitted to an inability to function without psychiatric medication, made a bizarre rambling speech about mental health and openly lied about current law saying that now, people who conduct background checks have no protection from liability if they transfer a gun. Of course, this is false.

While Democrat Betsy Johnson voted "no" on the final bill, she did vote with the rest of the Democrats on two procedural motions to move the bill forward.

When asked what would happen if a person wanted to store his guns in a friend's safe (since this would be illegal under the bill) Prozanski said that maybe the local DA would just "choose not to prosecute."

This bill now allows you to transfer a firearm to the spouse or gay lover of a family member if you KNOW the family member is a felon, but not to  a heterosexual girlfriend or boyfriend you live with.

Although Prozanski lied about it on the floor, the bill completely outlaws transfers of handguns to persons 18-21 years of age if they are not a relative. Of course, there's plenty more that makes this bill a nightmare.

The fight now moves to the House. And it will move very fast. Expect it to be assigned to the House Rules Committee instead of the Judiciary Committee where it would face opposition. And keep fighting. This is not  over by a long shot.

ANOTHER PRO-RIGHTS CITY RESOLUTION!

04.13.15

Brett Webb is a  Councilman in the City of Port Orford. He is also a Port Commissioner.  Mr. Webb will be proposing  a city wide resolution in opposition to the universal gun owner registration bill being rammed through the legislature.

If his resolution passes, Port Orford will join over 20 other counties and cities standing up to the Prozanski/ Hoyle gun grab.

You can see a copy of the resolution here.

Councilman Webb will be introducing this resolution this Thursday at 3:30pm.

You can help. Please send a note in support of Councilman Webb's pro-rights resolution to the members of the City Council.

Dear Council Member,

I strongly support Councilman Webb's proposed resolution in opposition to an expansion of Oregon's failed background check system to private transfers between friends and family members.  As you know, over 20 counties have voiced their opposition to this terrible idea and I am proud to see that you are considering joining them.  The current system regularly denies transfers to qualified buyers and there are practically no examples of these denials actually being used to stop criminals. This bill racing through the legislature would even forbid me from safeguarding a firearm for someone who had to be out of town.  Clearly, this benefits no one.  Please approve this resolution and send a message to Salem that you want to protect the rights of your residents.

Yours,

Two Bills on Wetlands in Oregon Legislature SB544 Protects Landowners

4/14/2015

Two bills on wetlands in legislature that would benefit our area.  SB 544 has had a hearing and it pertains to adverse impacts to adjacent landowners from wetland restoration ie. liability by OWEB and ODFW.

This bill is sponsored by Senator Betsy Johnson who represents Tillamook area.

SB956 is the other bill dealing with creation of wetlands in EFU land and has not received a hearing.  We need to request one.  Again, it is sponsored by Sen. Betsy Johnson of the Tillamook area on behalf of Chad Allen a dairy farmer.

Please email the Environmental and Natural Resource Committee asking them to approve these bills and move the bills out of Committee for a vote.  CC any emails to Sen. Johnson please.  Also email your senators which would be either Kruse or Roblan concerning these bills and the importance of them to our community.

Oregon Senator Cannot Function as a Normal Human Being

4/13/2015

Comments

Picture
"I can't function as a normal human being."

04.13.15

"But I can tell you that if I go two days without taking my medication, I can't walk in the door of this building. I can't get up in the morning. I can't take a shower."

These are the words of Senator Elizabeth Steiner Hayward, who says she suffers from "major depression."

Hayward also claims that both she and her husband "own weapons."

Certainly this has the potential to be a volatile combination and it is our hope that Hayward is getting adequate treatment and that the "weapons" she keeps in her home are not accessible to her. (Based on her comments she almost certainly would be denied a concealed handgun license anywhere in the state.) But apparently Hayward believes that her disability should be projected onto gun owners in Oregon.

Hayward is the chief sponsor of SB 945, a bill that would send you to prison if a minor were to access a firearm you owned. The bill is scheduled for a public hearing and work session on Thursday, April 16th at 8am in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Given Hayward's admission of her own inability to "function as a normal human being" without her medication, it seems odd and hypocritical that she would limit the punishments created in the bill, to guns acquired by minors. Why not punish people who allow access to firearms by people who suffer from depression and "can't take a shower" without medicine?

It is also disturbing that while attempting to stigmatize gun owners, Hayward ignores all the other things that a child, or mentally unsound adult, could acquire in a home and hurt themselves or others with.

Ironically, Hayward is a physician.  One would think she would be more concerned about deaths by overdoses of drugs, especially the kind of drugs the she herself is authorized to prescribe.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drug overdoses were the leading cause of injury death in 2013. Among people 25 to 64 years old, drug overdoses caused more deaths than motor vehicle crashes.

Of the 43,982 overdose deaths in 2013, over half of them were related to prescription drugs, a vastly larger number of deaths than caused by minors' access to firearms.  According to a Washington Post story, (no friend to gun owners) in 2011 there were a total of 591 accidental gun deaths.  A tragically high number to be sure, but dwarfed by the number of deaths caused by doctor prescribed drugs.

Add to this the staggering number of people who die every year as a result of mistakes made by doctors and it becomes clear that Hayward has little interest in reducing deaths, only in attacking gun owners.

A simple change to the bill would require that, in addition to firearms, people should be prosecuted if they do not lock up drugs. Of course, this same logic could be extended to people who don't safeguard knives, hammers and the keys to their car.  How many juveniles die every year after gaining access to their parent's vehicles?

Hayward is also a sponsor of SB 941, the "universal background check" bill due to be voted on on Tuesday in the Senate. This is another ironic twist. You see, under that bill, it would be illegal for you to safeguard a firearm for a friend who is experiencing an episode of the very kind of depression Hayward claims makes it impossible for her to "go to work" without medication.

If a friend came to you one night and asked if you would please put his gun in your safe until his mental state improved, you would be forbidden from doing so unless you conducted a background check on yourself. Of course, it better be before 10PM or that would be impossible, and if you were a victim of one of the Oregon State Police's many delays or denials, you would have to tell your friend that the law prohibited you from helping them.

Hayward's struggle with depression and her reliance on drugs to function "normally" is serious and tragic, but her focus on attacking the rights of gun owners is misguided, counterproductive and clearly the result of a political agenda far more than a desire to reduce deaths.

Please consider contacting Senator Hayward and suggesting she concentrate on solving the problems of prescription drug overdoses and doctor errors, which cause far more deaths than accidents with firearms.

________________________________________________________

Dear Senator Hayward,

It is troubling that, while seeking to punish gun owners when minors access their firearms, you have made no effort to force people to safeguard prescription drugs, tools, knives or their cars, all of which are responsible for far more deaths than firearms acquired by minors.

If you are really interested in saving lives, why not address the countless deaths caused every year by doctors' mistakes?

Why are you also promoting SB 941, which would make it illegal to safeguard a firearm for a friend who was suffering from a bout of depression?

Your policies are driven by agendas rather than any desire to reduce deaths. I urge you to reconsider these dangerous positions.

Yours,

Bad Bills and Fewer Jobs for Oregon

4/11/2015

Comments

Fewer jobs for Oregon??

Can we afford fewer jobs?

As you may know, there are several measures related to minimum wage scheduled for a joint hearing Monday, April 13th at 6:00pm in House Business and Labor and Senate Workforce.

For your convenience, attached is a document that you can print or distribute electronically explaining how to testify. Listed below is some information on the hearing itself.

Click on this link for a report on how just a $12.00 minimum wage will effect Oregonians. This is lower than most of the Bills being proposed. The study indicates that Oregon could lose 52,500 jobs. This report is well worth the time it takes to read it.  It's 21 pages long, but includes a lot of graphs.

Bills being heard:
House Bill 2004 – Repeals state preemption of charter and statutory authority of local governments to set minimum wage requirements.
House Bill 2008 – Increases Oregon minimum wage rate in graduated steps through 2017.
House Bill 2009 – Increases Oregon minimum wage rate in graduated steps to $15 per hour by 2018.
House Bill 2012 – Increases Oregon minimum wage rate in graduated steps to $13.50 per hour by 2017.

Senate Bill 327 - Increases Oregon minimum wage rate in graduated steps through 2017.
Senate Bill 597 - Increases Oregon minimum wage rate in graduated steps to $13.50 per hour by 2017.
Senate Bill 610 - Increases Oregon minimum wage rate in graduated steps to $15 per hour by 2018.
Senate Bill 682 – Increases Oregon minimum wage rate to $10.75 on January 1, 2016.
Senate Bill 130 - Repeals state preemption of charter and statutory authority of local governments to set minimum wage requirements.
Senate Bill 332 - Repeals state preemption of charter and statutory authority of local governments to set minimum wage requirements.

Date/Time:  Monday, April 13th at 6:00pm (Testimony sign-ups will begin at 5:30pm)

Location:  Oregon State Capitol, 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR  97301, Hearing Room F

Overflow:  Other hearing rooms will be opened for overflow.  Those waiting to testify can wait in an overflow room and make their way to Hearing Room F as their names are called.

Parking:  Street parking around the Capitol costs $1.50 per hour but is unenforced after 6:00pm.

Sign-Up:  Testimony sign-up sheets will be available at 5:30pm outside Hearing Room F.  There will be sheets designated for those in support of the measures and sheets designated for those in opposition.  Please note a timer will be used and testimony will likely be limited to three minutes per person.  There will be no call-in/Skype option for this hearing.  Anyone who is unable to attend the hearing but would like to submit testimony may submit written testimony for the record.

Submitting written testimony:  Written testimony may be submitted for disbursement to committee members by email to the Committee Administrator, Jan Nordlund at jan.nordlund@state.or.us.  Written testimony may also be submitted to committee staff at the hearing in hard copy form.  It will then be scanned and made available to committee members online.

Rapid Response Action Alert
SB 941 UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

Heading for Senate Floor 2nd reading April 13, 3rd reading & vote April 14

What is in this bill? This is the big showdown on Universal Background Checks for all firearm sales with few exceptions.

Judiciary Committee didn't allow adequate time for all those who came to from across the state to testify on this bill. Supporters were given their say, opponents were disenfranchised.

The Oregon Republican Party has taken a position opposing this bill and urges ALL Oregonians who value their Second Amendment Rights to take action now.

Current SituationThe Bill would require background checks be performed through a gun dealer for a fee and in most cases, in person as well. Multiple common sense amendments were offered and rejected without consideration by the Judiciary Committee Chair

The bill was voted out of committee and sent to the Senate floor on a partyline vote by Floyd Prozanski, Ginny Burdick and Sara Gelser.

Hi Rob,

I published a rebuttal to a decision from the ODF&W about some land use issues and it is publicly accessible.  If you think your readers from the watchdog site would find it interesting you are welcome to link to it.

Generally I avoided getting to political but could not resist in a few areas.
Thanks,
