Urban Renewal---A tale of bad planning in two Cities

6/23/2013

Comments

Hey Folks,
The following links below are from two different papers The Oregonian and The World.  The first article demonstrates the folly of city planners and the willingness of politicians to repeat their mistakes.  The Second article is plans by the city of Coos Bay to make those same mistakes made by city planners in Portland.  Please read the comments when you are reading the article on the paper’s webpage.  People are starting to get it.  They are starting to realize that Tax Increment Financing and Urban Renewal is a tool used by politicians to take money from the poor and give it to the rich, and that is how government makes the rich, richer and the poor, poorer……Rob T.

Portland study targets neighborhoods next up for gentrification

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2013/06/portland_study_targets_neighbo.html#
The men and women who pushed urban renewal in the 1980s and '90s now say they should have known better.

They should have known that government-sponsored revitalization in North and Northeast Portland would push long-time working-class and African-American residents to far-flung neighborhoods that lacked parks, sidewalks, paved streets and other basic services.

Planners and politicians did a lot of guessing, and some of the adverse unintended consequences of gentrification took them by surprise. Today, nobody can claim ignorance. So Portland leaders are trying to do a better job predicting where neighborhood improvement risks pricing out anyone who isn't white, well-educated and wealthy.

Coos Bay maps out plan for downtown prosperity

COOS BAY — To paraphrase a famous quote from the film “Field of Dreams”: If you show them where you are, they will come.

The Coos Bay Downtown Association believes that statement to be true and is taking steps to prove it through a new project.

In May, the organization brought its plan to the Urban Renewal Agency.  It calls for the installation of a way-finding sign at the Visitor Information Center on U.S. Highway 101 and two information kiosks near downtown. The City Council took up the plan at their meeting this week.

Urban Renewal---Oregon schools could recoup money

Hey Folks,

I have sat through several city and county meetings where government officials have knowingly lied about Urban Renewal districts taking money from school districts.  The following article from the Oregonian will validate the fact that politicians are taking money away from the education of our children---all for the practice of crony  capitalism.  The government is taking your tax dollars and putting it into the pockets of wealthy developers, which  create unintended perversions in the natural market.  It is time to end the fraudulent taxing scheme of Tax Increment Financing and Urban Renewal….Rob T.

Oregon schools could recoup money lost to urban renewal under new law

http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/06/oregon_schools_could_recoup_mo.html#incart_river
SALEM -- School districts who lose tax revenue to urban renewal agencies could recoup the losses in the future, thanks to a bill passed unanimously by the Oregon Senate today.

House Bill 2632 would prevent roughly 100 urban renewal agencies across the state from collecting property tax money from levies approved by voters after January 2013.

Supreme Court: Anti-prostitution pledge in AIDS law violates free speech

A 2003 US law providing funding to fight AIDS required recipients to explicitly oppose prostitution. The Supreme Court, by a 6-2 margin, rejected the pledge of 'allegiance to the government's policy.'
The US Supreme Court on Thursday struck down as a violation of free speech a portion of a 2003 federal law that required recipients of government money in an international anti-AIDS program to embrace and advocate a US policy explicitly opposing prostitution.

Slaying the Monster: The EPA

I Spy can now be heard on two different stations at different times!
Listen on Saturday: 11:00 to noon (Pacific time) on KYKN (1430-AM) or, if you’re outside of the Salem, OR, listening area, go to www.kykn.com and hit the "listen live" button.  Or on Sunday, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Pacific time) tune to KAJO (1270-AM) or if you’re outside of the Grants Pass, OR, listening area, go
to
www.kajo.com and hit the listen live button at the top of the page.

Our Guests:
Physicist, Dr. Gordon Fulks, & Shannon Goessling, Exec. Dir. of Southeastern Legal Foundation

This week: There are a few essentials to any good story: a hero who won’t give up; a villain or  obstacle that seems impossible to overcome; and (if you’re writing in the classical vein) a wise mentor who gives the hero the weapon they need to slay the villain.  That’s just the case this week on the I Spy Radio Show. The EPA is a huge, immovable monster that is slowly devouring businesses. If it’s not stopped, it will shut down power plants all across the country and prevent America from using one of its most abundant resources—coal.

Along comes Shannon Goessling, the Executive Director and Chief Legal Counsel for the Southeastern Legal Foundation, which took up the fight against the EPA. As with any good novel, they lost their previous round at the D.C. Appellate Court, but now they’re taking their case to the Supreme Court.  To aid them in their quest, Dr. Gordon Fulks and a group of highly qualified scientists have filed a brief with the court that challenges the underlying science of global warming, which could undo the EPA’s entire case. Incredibly, challenging the EPA’s bad science at the Supreme Court has never been done before.

Tune in to hear their inspiring story as they refuse to go quietly, and what it takes to go up against the monster.

Have you heard our very popular “I Spy Minute,” aired weekdays at 10:00 a.m. during KYKN’s peak listenership? We’re looking for personal and corporate sponsorships to help keep these educational and informative minutes on the air. Are you a business owner (or know one) that would like “prime real estate” to

The Domestic Spy Drone Program is Watching you

Hey Folks,
We are entering the world of "1984".
Big Brother is alive and well and watching you. Americans would not tolerate a secret police officer that followed you everywhere you go and cataloged everything you did, but that is exactly what is going on with the use of drones.  The people have to contact their representatives and demand they enforce the 4th Amendment.  Ask yourself these two questions: "Do you trust the Government?", "Do you trust the government to use SPY drones properly?"…..I Don't....Rob T.

FBI uses drones inside U.S. for spying, director says

Outgoing FBI Director Robert Mueller tells lawmakers that the agency uses drones domestically 'in a very, very minimal way.' He also says the NSA spy program helps track terrorist plots.

The Republican Party of Coos County Should Take a Stand

6/17/2013

Comments

Picture
June 13, 2013

Members of the Republican Party are desperately looking for new ways to convince people from the younger demographics to join the party of Lincoln and support GOP candidates.  Party membership is slowly being dwindling through the attrition of time.   People in their twenties and thirties are not interested in politics or simply, they do not want to associate with either political party.   Both the Democrats and the Republicans are vastly losing potential members to third parties, individuals registering as the nonaffiliated voter, or those who have fallen into an apathetic haze by choosing not to participate at all.

With the hypocrisy, infighting, and arrogance proliferating in all segments of politics, including the Republican Party, it is understandable why a fresher generation would not want to mess with the dirty laundry of the party’s older generation.  Party members must resist the natural urge of getting mad and defensive.  Instead, if they want the party to survive, Republicans must become more introspective, and reflect on the mistakes that have caused people to view the party from a negative perspective, especially those who are new to politics.  First impressions are everlasting.

It was the quintessential charm of the Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan, which attracted my generation to libertarianism or fiscal conservatism as an ideology, and eventually to the Republican Party.   He spoke of integrity and the importance of consistency in leadership.  Many believed it was a new day for republicans, but with all good things, it eventually ended.

We towed the party line only to watch those in powerful political positions betray their conservative values.  Every year federal and state Republican Congressmen in both houses voted for more spending,  more taxing and more debt.  They created laws that expanded the powers of the regulatory bureaucracy, while simultaneously promoting the Constitutional ideals of a representative form of government and the party rightfully suffered.  It should be of no surprise that party involvement has literally dropped off the proverbial cliff.

What can republicans do before we hit the jagged rocks below?

First, republicans have to remember why they joined the Republican Party.   Martin Luther King was a registered Republican.  In post-civil war America, most African Americans registered with the Republican Party and that trend continued until the latter part of the 20thCentury.  What happened?  The GOP was the political party that stood up for the rights of all Americans with particular attention to the underdog and downtrodden.  Moreover, republicans did this without promising handouts or social programs, but by speaking of self-reliance and  individual rights for everybody, equally.   The party has to return to these humble beginnings and become the
political party that Reverend King would be proud to be a member.

Second, republicans have to remember what it was like to be young.  People are the same and our differences and similarities transcend the generational divide, so older Republicans cannot make a predetermined judgment of people who are fledglings.   Republican ideas are solid and the philosophy of fiscal conservatism mingled with civil libertarianism will appeal to them and future generations.  However, fiduciary  responsibilities are not important to those driven by youthful compulsions or whimsical passions.  They want to
be left alone and that too is part of limiting the authority and growth of government and we, as republicans, have to be genuine in finding real solutions to these legitimate concerns.

The issue of the unconstitutionality of certain sections of the National Defense Authorization Act has become a political hotbed of an issue, which is appealing to people directly affected by these laws, hence the younger more technologically advanced group.  I would advise the Old Guard of the Republican Party to capitalize on this situation or face the peril of indecision.

The Republican Party of Coos County should take a stand on this issue and vote in favor of a  party resolution opposing sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA on the grounds they are unconstitutional and un-American.  The membership should discuss this issue, along with the county resolution at their next public meeting on Thursday, June 27, 2013.  Then they would be wise to promote their actions to the very people they want to attract to their side of the aisle.

The group “Oath Keepers” is having a Town Hall to discuss the NDAA Resolution at the North Bend Library on 1800 Sherman Ave, North Bend, OR ‎ in the large conference room on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 6:00 PM and everyone is encouraged to attend. Here is a link to a Google map: http://goo.gl/maps/rlxTu.  There is more information and current updates on the situation at www.CoosCountyWatchdog.com and sign up for the newsletter to stay informed.

The following day The NDAA Resolution is tentatively on the agenda at the regularly scheduled BOC meeting, which is at 9:30 am on Tuesday July 16, 2013.   People must be present to speak up for their rights.  Tell the Coos County commissioners to support and vote in favor of the resolution against the National Defense Authorization Act, especially when presidents, congressional representatives, and Supreme Court judges have lost their path in the journey as an exceptional Constitutional Republic.  If you do not sign up and speak out,
they will not hear your voice and you will fail to help the cause.   If you cannot attend the BOC meeting, then you can leave a message with the commissioners by dialing 541-396-7535 or email your message to bbrooks@co.coos.or.us , please be polite.

It would be an astonishingly refreshing change to see The Republican Party take a stand for something and demonstrate through their actions that the party of the “Great Emancipator” was more than just hot air and glimmering lights.

Letter to Editor---commissioner responsibility‏

6/16/2013

Dear Editor,

In reference to The World editorial, June 10th,  proclaiming our County Commissioners have no responsibility to tell the  federal government 'NO' when it comes to totally un-Constitutional  legislation such as the NDAA ( incarceration, no trial, no evidence necessary )  being enforced in our county: Even the Governor and the  State Legislature agree that the first duty of a County Board of  Commissioners is responsibility for the safety and welfare of the citizens  therein.

They have even passed a bill ( HB 3453 ) which states  that if the county cannot afford to provide for public safety, to  the degree the state deems necessary, they will take complete control of the  county and have the authority to sell county property, indebt the county, merge  with other counties, and install an income tax to provide these  functions.

Upon taking office commissioners swear an oath to support the united States Constitution and the Constitution of Oregon.   Now, is The World  unfamiliar with this Oath of Office, not familiar  with the united States of America Constitution or the Oregon Constitution?   Or are they totally negating the constitutional basis on which this country was  founded?

CHERRYL PERIL - PART II

6/16/2013

CHERRYL  PERIL - PART II   By Jack Swift

Shortly before the November election, I posted an essay regarding the “Cherryl Peril.”  When the dust settled, Cherryl was elected by a margin of 58 votes.  We now see what those 58 voters will cost us.

It is barely 4 months since Walker and Heck were sworn in.  We are confronted with a massive expansion of the power of our County bureaucracy.   On April 17, the new BoCC adopted a package of County organizational  reforms.  I am referring to the newly adopted Ordinances 2013-003, 2013-004, and 2013-005.   You might not have heard about them.  The package is patterned after the system of hearing officer courts used in Jackson County for the adjudication of land use disputes.  It is one we have a lot of experience with.  As Sheriff Gil has observed, the USFS (or BLM) writes a regulatory rule.  An FS officer then cites an offender of the rule. Then another FS officer judges the case. And the FS wins.

Ordinance 2013-003 grants enforcement authority to bureaucrats in County departments. They will be called “enforcement officers.”   Department heads and the employees they designate are empowered to investigate alleged violations of County ordinances, codes, and rules.  It is important to note that these cases are not complaint driven.  They are based upon any “reasonable cause.”   They can cite offenders into a special court (called a hearing officer) and they prosecute the case against the offender.   For a trial, the offender must first pay the presumed fine.   After the case is heard - without relying upon technical rules of evidence, a fine is imposed- for an ongoing offense $200 per day up to $10,000.  Fines recovered are then paid to the Department that issued the citation. This is a bureaucrat’s dream come true. One the one hand, it expands their power and on the other hand, it pays them to use it on the public.  Also note that it applies to any and all County ordinances, codes and rules - from animal control to food handling to land use.

Ordinance 2013-004 institutionalizes the hearing officer concept.  It establishes a panel of hearings officers and establishes the rules of court for these pundits.  Being a hearing officer requires no legal training, degree or bar membership.   It merely requires a demonstrated knowledge of the codes, ordinances and rules.  What better candidate than a former employee in the planning department? The hearings officers will serve at the pleasure of the BoCC and, incredibly,  they are charged to be fair and unbiased.

Ordinance 2013-005 is jurisdictional. Just in case we don’t have enough County ordinances, codes and rules, this ordinance adopts all State statutes, ordinances and administrative rules relating to tourist facilities, pool facilities, restaurants and bed and breakfast facilities, commissaries, mobile units, vending machines and public water systems (including domestic wells) as County ordinances for prosecution of offenses before hearings
officers.

The effect of the package is to create within County government a second tier of law enforcement.   It relates to bureaucratic rule enforcement with its own enforcement police and its own court system.   It is potentially entirely self-sustaining based upon the fine revenue it can generate.

You might not have heard about this package of legislation.  That is because it has been hidden behind Ordinance 2013-002, which is a “public nuisance” reform measure.  It repeals the existing solid waste and public nuisance ordinance and replaces it with a "better"  version.  That is the law the commissioners want to talk about. They can speak emotionally to “eye sore” abuses.   They claim the present $500 fine is inadequate and too difficult to enforce. For teeth, this new ordinance provides for violations as a Class A misdemeanor with up to one year in jail and $2500 fine.   Reform also makes things easier for the County.   The old law only applied to situations visible from a public road. And, most cumbersome of all, it required the signed complaint of three people living within ½ mile of the offense.  The new law deletes these technicalities and allows for prosecution before the hearings officers.  It only requires the complaint of one disgruntled individual.

What the commissioners do not tell you is that the existing law, ordinance 90-16, was adopted by the voters back in November of 1990.  It was enacted after a package similar to the 2013-002, 003, and 004 was rejected by the same voters in 1988.  One would think that the law’s limitations -three local people, visibility limitations, and $500 fine rather than criminal punishment - were safeguards important to the voters, even if bureaucrats didn’t like them.

Citizens in JoCo have witnessed a fundamental transformation of government.  Forget about police states.  We have created a police county.

Dare I say, “I told you so.”

Letter to Editor---The Problem with PERS

6/16/2013

Comments

To the Editor:

We all recognize that PERS is the Sword of Damocles threatening Oregon's future. Unfortunately, neither the Governors proposal (sure to be legally challenged), nor public legislative proposals (minor changes that continue to kick the can down the road), provide the immediate and dramatic effort to seriously deal with the problem.

When a patient arrives at the ER with multiple injuries, doctors do not start by fixing bone fractures while the patient has uncontrolled bleeding. They follow a triage protocol that controls the bleeding first.

We need to approach the PERS problem the same way, 1. Stop the bleeding by terminating PERS for all new employees (and elected/appointed officials),  immediately, let them rely on Social Security and personal IRA's like most working taxpayers. 2. Beginning with the next  contract cycle, insist that the most egregious PERS abuses (the 8% guarantee, use of sick & vacation leave to inflate retirement pay, etc.), be ended or public jobs would be reduced thru privatization wherever feasible. 3. In the long term, privatization whenever possible, is the only responsible way to limit runaway government costs and increase government accountability, based on my 24 years of federal and municipal service. 4. As long as the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of state government remain beneficiaries of PERS, the people (taxpayers) will never have an effective advocate at contract negotiations with public unions.

Letter to Editor---3 Issues 4-5-13‏

Dear Editor --

Three items are pulsing palpably  in our county.

One is the cross on the Viet Nam memorial  monument in Mingus Park.  I will buy lunch at the floating Coos Bay  Boardwalk Fishermen's Restaurant for the first objector who can show me where in  the US Constitution or its amendments anywhere that the Constitution suggests,  or mandates, separation of church and state.  It is not there.  The  Constitution does not demand separation of church and state.  This  separation is a tenet of
revisionist history; it doesn't exist in the  original.  Honest.

Another issue is the National Defense  Authorization Act, a military spending bill being updated in 2013.  On  Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013, Tom McKirgan, Oath Keeper of Coos County, and  Shane Ozbun, Eugene, presented to the county commissioners a well outlined  presentation of the perils contained in that bill.  The NDAA, Sections 1021  and 1022, contains language that allows the military to seize American  citizens on American soil without charging them with anything, to detain them  without representation, and even to ship them out of the country.

Commissioner Melissa Cribbins questioned  whether this should be handled at the state level.  This might happen,  in time, but the county is the domain of the sheriff and this is where a  sheriff can draw the line, telling the feds to go home.  Melissa also  wanted to know just how many have been seized this way.  Good  question.  Bad question.

The questions should have been:  How  did we ever get to this place in America?  And what do we do to reverse  it?  The gentlemen presenting wanted the county to pass a resolution  nullifying the unconstitutional parts of the NDAA bill here in Coos County, a  beginning however humble.

And then there was an Administrator.  Or two Administrators...?  Two is what the recent Portland State University report  recommended.  Do you recall that only months ago you voted down having an administrator?  Well, they're advertising for a Chief Financial  Officer.   Commissioner Cribbins said last week that two applications had  already come in.   This is an unelected administrative position  paying between $4,000 and $7,000 a month, unaccountable to the voters,  and serving solely at the pleasure of the commissioners.

To make this even better, a gentleman suggested  that the other administrator might be someone hired to oversee the four newly  realigned county department groupings.  Wonderful!  Then we'd have an  unelected  unaccountable administrator over elected officials.  It could  happen.

Regionalism - The Blueprint for Your Serfdom

By Michael Shaw
Saturday, 01  December 2012 12:31
Did you know that some of your local elected representatives are enabling a shadow government to evolve? These people promote the reinvention of government through their support of, and appointments to, “regional” boards that act like soviet councils. These councils are funded to implement Agenda 21. Federal tax dollars fuel their appeal, but your city and county representatives do not have to go along.
http://www.newswithviews.com/Shaw/michael134.htm
Picture
Gone are the days when government was limited, where individuals were politically
acknowledged to possess unalienable rights, and where money was honest. The
American political structure has been transformed. This has occurred quietly for
more than 50 years without public awareness of the mechanisms underlying the
change.

At the core of this transformation is the political process of“regionalizing” the country.  Political regionalism is
the antithesis of representative government. Regionalism restructures or reinvents the operation of American government by destroying traditional political boundaries, such as county lines, and ushers in a transformed system of governance that ultimately abolishes private property and the rights of the individual. Regionalism has infiltrated cities and counties everywhere, affecting transportation, water, farming and land use systems…literally every aspect of your life.

Let’s start with an example showing how Agenda 21 programs are brought into your town via “Regionalism.”

Here is an excerpt from the United Nations’ Agenda 21 document concerning transportation planning:

Towns across the country are adopting these transport systems. This is because these systems are imposed upon locales by a regional level of government largely unknown and underestimated.

The large scale version of the U.S. adoption of modern regionalism is a federally imposed extra-constitutional layer of government covering the entire nation.

According to the website of the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC), NARC “serves as the national voice of regionalism through effective interaction and advocacy with Congress, Federal officials and other agencies and interest groups.” NARC’s agenda includes but is not limited to: transportation, community and economic development, environment, homeland security, "regional preparedness," and community issues…

In addition to NARC, citizens must know about the following regional planning and development agencies that work to implement NARC’s goals:

·        Council of Governments (COG)

 ·       Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)

Council of Governments (COG)

COGs are region-wide associations of local governments –regional bodies, typically defined to serve an area of several counties to address issues such as regional and municipal planning, economic and community development, cartography and Government Information Systems (GIS), hazard mitigation and emergency planning,  aging services, water use, pollution control, transit administration, and transportation planning.

COGs run your town and your county from behind the scenes. Federal funds allocated to COGs coordinate the local implementation of Agenda 21.

Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)

MPOs are federally mandated and, like COGs, are the instruments for restructuring American government. They are setting up an infrastructure for a new economic system based on public private partnership to replace free
enterprise.

COGs and MPOs are federalized organizations that break down America’s constitutionally formulated government structure. Their purpose is to control and direct localgovernment from behind the scenes.

Today, they propel the federal injection of the globalist agenda into local government policy and thereby negate the protections afforded by our constitutional system of government. This violation of the American essence and of our natural rights must stop!

In the words of Charlotte Iserbyt, former Department of Education official and author of The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America,
“Regionalism is Communism.”
Regionalism promotes soviet style councils that develop policy that is then rubber-stamped by elected officials, with no meaningful public oversight. It is an extra level of government that operates outside the provisions of the Constitution, thus advancing globalist objectives whilst insulating most elected officials. Some elected officials are the appointees to COG management authority.

In short, American regionalism is theinstrument used to advance the globalist goals of political restructure:
 ·        To implement a step-by-step approach to the abolition of private property;
 ·        To promote the relocation of people from rural areas to Smart Growth urban centers;
 ·        To conscript public private partners and mandate community volunteerism.

A leading example of regional control is emerging in the San Francisco Bay Area. There, the COG is known as ABAG, the Association of Bay Area Governments.  ABAG, in association with ICLEI (International Council for Local  Environmental Initiatives) has launched the “One Bay Area”program.  One Bay Areais the local federalized and internationalized plan for the implementation of Agenda 21. This 9 county, 101 city (with a combined population of 7 ½ million people) “regional” plan is designed as a full commitment to the collectivist program of Smart Growth and wild area set asides.

Over the next 20 years 630,000 new residential units are projected by ABAG. ALL residential construction specified by the plan is be multi-family housing. Fully 80% of the planned housing must be within ½ mile of newly designated “transit corridors.” One such transit corridor, El Camino Real, is the major artery from San Jose to San Francisco and is planned to be transformed into a series of government controlled stack‘n pack smart growth developments. Ultimately all private vehicles will be banned from El Camino.

To accomplish this and much more, the federal government has committed a quarter of a trillion dollars to ABAG’s One Bay Areaprogram! Despite widespread opposition as One Bay Area was rolled out this year, the plan is moving forward pursuant to a shortened and rigged approval process – a sign of things to come all across the country.

ABAG and One Bay Area evidence that government no longer operates pursuant to Constitutional design. As a result, we all lose government protection and defense of unalienable rights.

U.S. top court bars patents on human genes unless synthetic
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/06/13/us-usa-court-genes-idUSBRE95C0PW20130613
(Reuters) - A unanimous U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday prohibited patents on  naturally occurring human genes but allowed legal protections on synthetically  produced genetic material in a compromise ruling hailed as a partial victory for  patients and the biotechnology industry.
The ruling by the nine justices, the first of its kind for the top U.S.court, buttressed important patent protections relied upon by biotechnology companies while making it clear that genes extracted from the human body cannot be patented.

Researchers and advocates for patients said it could make it easier for people to get cheaper genetic tests for disease risk.

Public Pools are a huge & unnecessary Taxpayer Liability

Oregon pool safety info hard to come by

School’s out, the sun is shining, and families are flocking to area pools.

In Phoenix, Los Angeles and other cities across the country, going online to check a pool’s water quality and safety record is as routine as loading up the sunscreen and towels.

But getting that information is close to impossible in Oregon.

Pool inspection violations
The 189 pools, spas and splash pads in Marion and Polk counties have been cited 3,488 times over the past five years. Here are the violations investigators found most often:
•  285 citations: Free chlorine less than 0.8 ppm or greater than 5.0 ppm (parts per million). Chlorine that is too
low can allow disease to spread; too high can cause eye, lung and skin irritation.
•  191 citations: Skimmer weirs missing or damaged. A skimmer is a device that pulls in the surface water of the pool, filtering
leaves, insects and other debris. The weir is a door that fits inside to control water flow.
•  165 citations: The pH is less than 7.2 or greater than 7.6.
•  163 citations: Pressure or vacuum gauges are inoperable.
•  161 citations: Total alkalinity less than 80 ppm or greater than 200 ppm.

This month we will hear from an Oregon chapter of People Against the National Defense Authorization Act, or PANDA.  This national wide group has been fighting the 2012 NDAA with active chapters in more than 40 states.
The NDAA, authorizes the president and all future presidents — to order the military to pick up and imprison U.S. citizens captured far from any battlefield without charging them or putting them on trial. This could well be within our own borders.

PANDA Oregon activated February 5th 2013 and has partnered up with Oregon Oath Keepers to Introduce legislation against the NDAA in the state legislature, county, and city and make sure it is signed into law. They are currently working with Lane, Douglas, and Coos County Commissioners to reject the 2012 NDAA.

I Spy Radio---Suing the EPA‏

6/7/2013

This Week: Suing the EPA  -- In Two Weeks, Taking the EPA to the Supreme
Court with Dr. Gordon Fulks & Shannon Goessling

I Spy can now be heard on two different stations at different times!

Listen on Saturday:
11:00 to noon (Pacific time
) on KYKN
(1430-AM) or, if you’re outside of the Salem, OR, listening area, go to www.kykn.com and hit the "listen live"
button.

Or on Sunday, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Pacific time) tune to KAJO (1270-AM) or if you’re outside of the Grants Pass, OR, listening area, go to www.kajo.com and hit the listen live button at the top of the page.

Our Guest:  Shannon Goessling, Executive Director of Southeastern Legal Foundation

This week: Our host, Mark Anderson, is just coming off of a two-week residency program and he’s
anxious to get back into the swing of things in the real world.  But that also  means that this weekend on the I Spy Radio Show, we need to run a best of I Spy. We'll rebroadcast our show with Shannon Goessling. She is the Chief Legal Counsel for the Southeastern Legal Foundation, which argued last year before the 12th District Court against the EPA’s overreach on Carbon Dioxide.

If you heard our show last week with Dr. Easterbrook, you know the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is almost zero and could not possibly cause global warming. As he said, if you double zero you still have zero.  So why is the EPA targeting CO2? If you’ve ever suspected that Obama is anti-business, and wants to control all
aspects of our life (think IRS and monitoring phone records), you need to listen to this week’s show. You’ll get a peek behind the scenes at his administration’s contempt for industry.

All of this is in preparation for our show on the weekend of June 22nd.  We’ll talk again with Shannon who is taking their lawsuit to the Supreme Court.  And with Dr. Gordon Fulks, who along with other scientists have filed a brief with the Supreme Court over the EPA’s bad science.

Have you heard our very popular “I Spy Minute,” aired weekdays at 10:00 a.m. during KYKN’s peak listenership? We’re looking for personal and corporate sponsorships to help keep these educational
and informative minutes on the air. Are you a business owner (or know one) that would like “prime real estate” to
advertise? We have two :30 ad spots following the I Spy Minute available, but you need to contact karla@ispyradio.com to take advantage of these.

Saturday’s, 11:00 a.m.  to noon, (Pacific time).  Listen live on KYKN(1430-AM), or, if you’re outside of
the Salem listening area, just go to
www.kykn.com and hit the listen live button.

Or Sunday’s, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Pacific time). Listen live on KAJO (1270-AM) or, if you’re outside of the
Grants Pass, OR listening area, go to
www.kajo.com and hit the listen live button at the top of the page.

Busy on Saturday or Sunday?  Not a problem.  Monday, after the show airs, you can go to our webpage www.ispyradio.com and download it from our “past shows” page.

From Tom McKirgan of Oathkeepers

In researching their ordinances, I discovered that they do in fact have one in place like Bob
mentioned, however, it's called the "Federal Coordination Policy" #12.1231. You can view the PDF here. http://www.co.jackson.or.us/Files/Ch1231.pdf

Page 13 sec 7C affirms no restrictions to particular issues with the county's involvement. Also, above this on their site is another PDF on Chapter 49 "Vested Rights" which might have something to do with this as well. I only skimmed over it. #12.1230. http://www.co.jackson.or.us/Files/Ch1230.pdf

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can did up anything else you need.

American Psychiatric Association: Half of Americans 'mentally  ill'

"In a move with implications for every American, the American  Psychiatric Association’s new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental  Disorders takes obfuscation and euphemistic language to a whole new level,  calling temper tantrums “disruptive mood dysregulation disorder” and labeling  grief “major depressive disorder.”"

According to the 2006 report in the  Journal of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics: “As the diagnoses completely lack  scientific criteria, anyone can be labeled mentally ill, and subjected to  dangerous and
life-threatening treatments based solely on opinion. … Therein  lies the underlying problem of DSM – it isn’t a medical diagnostic system. It’s  all based on opinion – and faulty at best.”

And, these OPINIONS can have  you stripped of your rights. This is not a good thing.

[SAOVA_West] Legislation Briefs June 5, 2013‏

6/5/2013

Dear SAOVA Friends,

The IRS scandal continues to unfold in Washington with Congressional hearings underway and now investigation by the FBI into IRS actions and targeting of certain nonprofits. Discovery that the Director of the IRS division implicated in using the improper targeting,  Lois Lerner, is an active member of HSUS raised questions whether she used her position to run interference for HSUS.

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) wrote a letter to Lerner the year before asking that HSUS’s political spending
be scrutinized. Lerner took no action. In response, Rep. Luetkemeyer wrote another letter to the Treasury Secretary and the Inspector General for Tax Administration renewing his call for an investigation of HSUS.

In his weekly column, Luetkemeyer writes, “Three years ago, a number of constituents brought to my attention their concerns that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) was involved in political and lobbying activities that were in direct violation of its 501(c)3 tax-except status that prohibits such activities. To be clear, HSUS is not affiliated with your local animal shelter.  In fact, only 1 percent of the money HSUS raises makes its way to animal shelters at all. Instead, it spends millions of dollars on lobbying, ballot initiatives, and other political activities.  For three years, and after providing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with more than 3,000 pages of documents exposing HSUS’ activities and calling for an investigation, the agency told me they could not discuss ongoing investigations and were also unable to confirm or deny whether or not an investigation was underway.”

Luetkemeyer continues, “This is the worst kind of government abuse that I have ever encountered in my more than two decades in public service and I am determined to get to the bottom of things on behalf of those folks who came to me three years ago with these allegations.”   http://luetkemeyer.house.gov

Please write to your own Congressman and ask why the IRS has ignored the repeated requests of Congressman Luetkemeyer to act upon the allegations that the HSUS was involved in political and lobbying activities that were in direct violation of its 501(c)3 tax-except status that prohibits such activities. A thorough investigation is needed to resolve this issue and to restore the faith and trust in our government.

The world not only belongs to those who show up, it's controlled by the best informed and most motivated.
Thanks for reading.

To All Members and Friends of Coos Co. AFP:

On June 20th at the ESD Bldg.,  1350 Teakwood Ave., Americans for Prosperity-Coos County Chapter will hold a Townhall featuring James Loftus on KitzCare, Oregon's Version of ObamaCare.
Most people think that ObamaCare kicks-in in 2014.  The reality is, that's when it has to be implemented.  That means your insurance company will start transitioning you to new plans this October (since they have 90 days to do so).  That's only 4 months away!

Big Daddy's BBQ will be there.  Also, bring your favorite potluck or store-bought dish. Come out, Attend a meeting, and Learn about your mandated healthcare!
5:30-8:00PM;
No admission charged. Public is Welcome.

Hi all members and friends of AFP Coos:

We have changed our meeting schedule for the summer and maybe longer to the 3rd Thursday of the month.  June 20th and July 18th are our next meetings. Thanks to everyone who has written, vocalized, shared, promoted, cried, and prayed for your county and Consitution this past month.  We are with you.

Rick

From Connie M.
Greetings, All,

Americans for Prosperity is bringing another great and informative program to our area to keep you up to date on vital issues in our Country.

Mr. Loftus from Corvallis, the AFP Coordinator, has studied and put together a Power Point Presentation  on
Governor Kitzhauber's  version of ObamaCare for Oregon. See the talking points in the attached flyer and plan on attending  June 20 at 5:30pm at the ESD (Educational Service District) Building at 1350 Teakwood, Coos
Bay.

KitzCare will affect everyone and it's not going to be pretty! Try to whatever you can to attend this very crucial event so you'll know how the new HealthCare Law will affect you personally.  Also, I would recommend you obtain and read a copy of 'ObamaCare 911' by Nick J. Tate.

Hope to see you there!

Hey Folks,

This is not in our county.  However, the decisions there will effect our future here and the future of our right to own private property.  They are planning to control every single thing under the sun.  Please, even if you do not live there, go to this meeting and speak up for freedom........Rob T.
