Update to the AFP Lobbying Training
From:  CG912Project Members and friends,

Here is an opportunity to receive training working with the Oregon Legislature presented by AFP.
  _________________________

Training on lobbying the legislature

A four hour training session will be hosted by

“lobby” the legislature.

Representatives Thompson and Berger will teach us how to effectively testify
  at committee hearings.

We will split into two groups and switch training sessions after the lunch
break. Lunch at 11:30 will be provided by AFP.

This class is intended to work hand-in-hand with the Oregon Citizen Lobby
training that Karla Edwards has scheduled to begin on 1/21/13.

AFP---Oregon Citizens Lobby Training‏

12/25/2012

Comments

From: Karla Kay Edwards  AFP State Chair

The elections are over; the TV ads and campaigning are finished. The politicians have stopped making
promises and drowning us in their rhetoric. Now is the time for citizens to begin working in earnest. As the 2013 legislative session approaches, who will take the time to watch over our representatives as they “work for the people”?

This is what Oregon Citizens Lobby does. Oregon Citizens Lobby is a statewide collaborative
effort by citizens and organizations like AFP to promote legislative accountability.
We analyze bills, lobby our representatives, provide testimony, and work with other citizens to let our legislators know that we are
involved in the process, we are watching them, and we are keeping score. As you can imagine this kind of effort takes coordination, but, more importantly, it takes a large number of concerned citizens who are willing to volunteer their time and their talent to join in this effort.

The 2013 legislative session will begin on February 4th. Between now and then, we will be training and organizing our members in preparation for the session. We hope that you will take the time to consider how you might contribute to our efforts and join our cause. Please fill out one of the signup sheets and send it in or go online to submit the information there.

Then join us at one of the following OCL trainings where we will teach you some basics on how to analyze and grade a bill. This will include how to use the technology we have designed to help make this citizen effort easier.

Trainings will be around the state as follows:

Monday, January 21st from 6pm to 8pm at The Saddle Restaurant:
2220 SE Court Ave. Pendleton

Tuesday, January 22ndfrom 6pm to 8pm:
Location to be announced. Bend

Wednesday, January 23rd from 6pm to 8pm
Medford Public Library: 205 South Central Ave. Medford

Thursday, January 24th from 6pm to 8pm
Springfield Utility Board (SUB): 223 “A” Str., Springfield

Monday, January 28th from 6pm to 8pm
West End Building, Willamette Rm.: 4101 Kruse Way, Lake Oswego

The Monday, January 28thtraining in Lake Oswego will also be available live via the web in case anyone was unable to attend a prior training in person.

Click here to register to attend the webinar training.

Thank you for your willingness to actively participate in the governance of our state. It is imperative that the citizens of Oregon remain vigilant during this and future legislative sessions. Without the voice of reason from the citizens of Oregon, there will be little accountability for the decisions legislators will be making on our behalf. If you have any questions contact us at:oregoncitizenslobby@gmail.com or find us at Oregon Citizens Lobby on Facebook.

Take Critical Tea Party Survey Now‏

12/11/2012

Comments

From: the National Tea Party
Dear Patriot,

Now that Barack Obama has been reelected, Republicans in Congress need to know where Tea Party
members stand.

Please take our online National Tea Party Survey right away. Just click here. It will only take a few minutes and the politicians need to hear from you.

They need to know if you want them to keep battling Barack Obama's big government policies or simply accept our economic fate.

They need to know if you want them to fight for smaller government or if they should seek a "compromise" with the President.

I am very serious. This is an extremely important survey and Republican Congressional leaders must know where Tea Party members stand right away.

You see, a great many Republican politicians believe that the Tea Party movement has outlived its usefulness and that it's time for "compromise" with Barack Obama.

They say the American people care more about bipartisanship and that it is important to seek consensus with the President no matter what the cost to our economy.

They say that the cutting the size and scope of government, repealing Obamacare and balancing the budget are impossible and that we shouldn't even try.

Personally, I don't agree. Not at all.

And I don't believe you do either.

Please complete the National Tea Party Survey right now. This is your chance to make your voice heard.

I'm going to tabulate the responses to this critical project and share them with our Board of Directors and all of our 3,400 local Tea Party affiliates.

And, of course, I'm going to show these results to key Members of Congress, too.

This survey may be the only TRUEgauge of where Tea Party supporters stand that these politicians ever see.

Right now they are being bombarded by Washington pundits touting biased media polls that say the American people want bigger government and higher taxes.

That's why this survey is so critically important.

The politicians need to hear from you. They need to hear directly from grassroots America.

Please complete the survey right now.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Jenny Beth Martin
Co-Founder and National Coordinator

PS: I know there are many demands on your time, but this is important. In fact, it may be the most effective use of your time today! By answering only 6 simple questions you have an opportunity to influence the course of the election. Click Here to take the survey now!

Landowner stands ground against government ‘shake-down’‏

Rob,
Great to see you at the AFP meeting Thursday and really great to hear your ongoing enthusiasm on these local battles we are fighting.

Came across this article that shows property owners in Florida are fighting with the self appointed 'ruling class' over what they can and can't do with their property. Fortunately, these cases ultimately went in favor of the owner, but still, who the hell do these people think they are?

Don't get me started!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Rick Hoffine of the Coos County chapter of the AFP

Steve Noorlander and I were up in Eugene over the weekend and took in the  Second Annual Basic American Rights Series seminar.  Present was Utah  Congressman Ken Ivory, whose insights about
the federal takeover of  western lands in the U.S. are worth checking out.  His presentation was over the top and I am including an audio (it's a little over an hour, so you may want to put it on your ipod or make a cd of it if you don't want to listen while on the computer) of his presentation ....There will also be
DVD's available of which I will secure one for re-showing at an upcoming AFP meeting.  We all know we have to stop the federal government in its tracks and we feel Ken has the resources that can help us who are waging this battle come out on top.  The websites are  sites you need to check out.  I believe there are resources here that  can help our cause in the outlandish takeover in the Coquille Valley by  USFW and ODFW.

Want to make a difference in the state and national discourse but are unsure how?

Have we got a couple of opportunities for you.

National Freedom Phones!

Americans for Prosperity has launched a grassroots effort to identify hundreds of thousands of citizens across this
country on where they stand on the issues and promote the values of limited government and free enterprise.  It is truly a grassroots effort that takes the commitment from volunteers at a local level.  The program is designed to give
economic freedom loving individuals the opportunity to make a difference and put our country back on a course to limited government and free markets.

AFP is looking for volunteers to commit to being a part of our grassroots program and help us put our nation back on a path to economic freedom and limited government. This grassroots effort relies on the hard work of our team and volunteers across America.

Will you be one of them?  Contact Karla Kay Edwards at 503.537.8108 in Oregon to participate.

These 2 quick, easy actions will allow a huge amount of people to learn more about the Oregon Death Tax being an unfair, double tax, and the harmful effects it has on Oregon families, businesses and farms. The “Yes on 84”

Dear All of You --

Americans for Prosperity have invited us to do  our Home Rule presentation - the thirty minute version - on October 11th, 2012  Thursday, at the ESD building on Teakwood at Koosbay in Coos Bay.  They  sell sandwiches
starting at 5:30, the meeting starts at 6:00.  Usually they  start with their "business" followed after by people or groups presenting.   Art Robinson is scheduled to be there so the turnout shoud be pretty  respectable.

This is about one week before the ballots are  mailed out.  This is also one day after our Red Lion performance on October  10th.  Can everybody make it?

72 days to our victory party!

PS:  WE NEED LETTERS TO THE EDITORS AND RESPONSES ON  BLOGS.  LEAN ON YOUR FRIENDS.  IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE LONG!  JUST  POSITIVE.  WE CAN DO THIS.

Stop the vote on the Wind Production Tax Credit

8/2/2012

Comments

Hello,
This Thursday the Senate Finance Committee is taking up a bill that extends the wind production tax credit, a handout for wind energy producers that distorts our energy markets.  It’s long past time for Washington to stop using
the tax code to manipulate our economy and our energy production.

Thankfully, one of your senators sits on the Finance Committee and he or she will have a chance to vote on whether to extend this subsidy.

Click here to email your senator’s office today and urge a no vote on the Wind Production Tax Credit.

This subsidy is actually scheduled to expire at the end of the year.  This time it’s easy for Congress to do the right thing: just do nothing, and these wasteful subsidies will expire as planned.

These types of energy subsides are poor policy.  Just look at the subsidies for ethanol, which despite decades of preferential treatment is still not self-sustaining.  Or look at the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars
wasted on green energy companies like Solyndra, Beacon Power and Ener1, all of which are now bankrupt.

The wind power industry itself said they only needed taxpayer support for a little while to help them get off the ground.  That was 20 years ago, and we’re still providing a $5 billion special tax subsidy each year for an industry
that supplies just over 2% of our power.

It’s time for this subsidy to end.

Click here to email your senator’s office today and urge a no vote on the Wind Production Tax Credit.

Final Push to Qualify Repeal of the Death Tax for Ballot‏

6/20/2012

Comments

Hello,
We need your help to gain back Oregon’s economic freedom.

Americans for Prosperity has endorsed Initiative Petition 15, the Death Tax Phase-Out Act, and joined over 40 organizations in the coalition to eliminate this tax. We ask you to be a part of this effort.

We have just over three weeks to finish collecting the required 87,213 voter signatures to put this important initiative on the November 2012 ballot. You can help us with your signature.

Here is a single-signature e-petition and here is the text of the measure. All you have to do is print the attached petition, sign the petition and mail it in. The mailing address is on the petition.

We ask that you also forward this email to your friends.

You can make the difference. Please take action!

 For prosperity,

They just keep spending, ANOTHER FARM BILL

6/20/2012

Comments

They just keep spending.

Apparently unfazed by the spending-driven crisis in Europe and our $16 trillion debt here at home, the U.S. Senate is actually considering whether to spend a trillion dollars over the next ten years on the so-called Farm Bill.

In 2008, the country spent $51 billion on these programs and by 2011 it had almost doubled to $98 billion. Somehow the bill’s lead sponsor (Senator Stabenow from Michigan) has the audacity to claim $23 billion in deficit
reduction over ten years. As AFP Policy Analyst Christine Harbin wrote, “Lawmakers are now patting themselves on the back for locking in those huge increases and then cutting a little bit around the edges.”

Take Action Today and Urge your Senator to Vote NO on this Bloated Spending Bill!

What’s worse, this whole package is masquerading through Congress under the guise of being a Farm Bill. But in 2011 almost 80% of the funding went to food stamps and other supplemental nutrition programs. With less than a quarter of the spending in this bill actually going to farm programs, perhaps it would be more appropriate to call this the Food Stamps Bill.

The bill also claims to end direct payments to crop producers but it puts in a whole new program called “shallow
loss
” where Congress guarantees big agribusinesses’  revenues will never fall below 90% of their average revenues over the last five years. If a crop has a bad year or if prices fall, Uncle Sam is there to make up the difference. It’s a guaranteed minimum income and it’s just as bad as direct  payments.

 AFP has issued a key vote letter in support of four amendments as the Senate considers changes to the bill;
click here to read our letter.

Take Action Today and Urge your Senator to Vote NO on this Bloated Spending Bill!

Oregon Ranks 45th for Economic Outlook‏

6/7/2012

Comments

Dear Citizen,
When compared among the 50 states, Oregon ranks 45th for economic outlook — It’s time for us to
get motivated and to make a change!

There are many things we can do to gain back Oregon’s economic freedom and make our state more competitive, and one of which, is to repeal the Oregon Death Tax.

Americans for Prosperity, along with over 40 other organizations have formed a coalition to end the Oregon Death Tax, and have been circulating an initiative petition to do just that—Initiative Petition 15, the Death Tax Phase-Out Act. Please visit EndOregonDeathTax.com to read more about the issue.

We have just under five weeks to collect the required 87,213 verified signatures, plus a cushion to ensure this
important initiative makes the November 2012 ballot. The only way we can accomplish this goal, and begin to become a better competitor in the United  States, is with your help.

There are a few ways in which you can be a part of this important initiative.

You can:
1.  Visit www.endoregondeathtax.com , download an e-petition, sign it and mail it in.

               2. Volunteer to circulate petitions among your friends, or co-workers, or in your
neighborhood, please call 503.480.0523 or send an email to info@commonsensefororegon.org to obtain
a volunteer signature gathering packet.

          3. Forward this email to your friends and have them sign the petition, as well.

This initiative is a great first step toward changing Oregon’s outlook and creating greater economic freedom in Oregon.

You can make the difference. Please participate!

Thank you for your help with this important initiative.

Americans for Prosperity Monthly Meeting

5/1/2012

Hi,

  • Wednesday, May 9th at 5:30PM in the Umpqua Rooms at the Red Lion Hotel, marks the time and place when the Coos County Chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP), holds its first meeting of the month. Joining us will be citizens, Rob Taylor and Don Chance, speaking on two different subjects: Urban Renewal Agencies and the Bandon Marsh Expansion. If you have a neighbor who hasn't been to one of our meetings, but is just as sick of being "sick and tired" of an out-of-control government as you are, bring them along. Order your meal as early as 5PM from several entrees on the menu. We'll plan to adjourn at 8PM.
  • Our Coos Chapter training presentation that same evening will be a short video session on HOW TO BE A BUDGET DETECTIVE, by Jeff Kropf, former Director of AFP-Oregon and current Executive Director of Oregon Capitol Watch Foundation. Bring a notepad and be prepared to learn how to delve into and analyze public sector budgets.

Hi:

The AFP Coos Chapter meeting on May 9th will NOT feature Jeff Kropf, in  person, presenting, HOW TO
BECOME A BUDGET DETECTIVE.  The notice should have made clear that the training will be a DVD  video session of Jeff, recorded on February 1 of this year in Keizer,  Oregon at a Citizen Watchdog seminar, and not a live presentation as was insinuated.  If you have any questions, let me know.
