Stop the Bandon Expansion of Urban Renewal

3/13/2012

Comments

Hey Everyone,

We have launched our first petition of the election season and it is a
Referendum Petition in Bandon.

The referendum will give the voters the chance to choose if they want to
increase the debt limit on the Bandon Urban Renewal Agency in area #1.

Tomorrow, starting around 10 AM we have a few volunteers who will be collecting signatures around town, so look for us if you are in Bandon.

If you live in Bandon and want to just sign the petition, then call or email
me at the contact info provided below.

Email your Mailing Address to me if you want to help collect
signatures.  Then I will send you the petition and the rules on how to
gather signatures.

If you are going to collect signatures, it is very important to follow the
instructions on the back of the petition.
DO NOT sign or date the
petition until you are completely finished collecting signatures.
DO  NOT number the petition.

When you are done, please send the
signed sheets back to my address:

Rob Taylor
PO Box 973
Bandon, OR 97411

Also, it is very costly to run a petition campaign; fortunately our group can
accept donations.  If you would like to contribute to the cause, then send
a check or money order to:
The Committee to Stop the Bandon
Resolution
PO Box 973
Bandon, OR, 97411-0973

Please include your Name, address, and occupation.  Unless you refuse,
then there is nothing I or anyone else can do to force you to divulge that
information, but we are required to ask.

For Coos County, I’m working on getting the Urban Renewal Initiative
passed using the parliamentary power of the Board of Commissioners.  The
BOC can change county law without a public vote and save the county around $60
grand in the cost of the election.  If we cannot get a consensus in the
next two weeks and get it passed at a BOC Meeting, then we will file an
Initiative Petition.

Please, call the commissioners and ask them to pass the Urban Renewal
Initiative without a public vote.  It would save money and increase voter
control over the Urban Renewal debt.

Remember to thank them for passing the resolution opposing The Bandon
Marsh Expansion.  They did the right thing, so let them know.

Surprisingly, the County Clerk has never processed an Initiative Petition
since starting her job.  This is the first Referendum ever filed, since
Winkel has been City Manager of Bandon.  We are making history and that is
just the beginning.  We will be filing an Initiative Petition next week in
Bandon, similar to the one passed in Clackamas County and we plan of taking
control of all the Urban Renewal Agencies in the county with this same
procedure.

We have the means and tools at our disposal, so let us take advantage and
make some real change for today.
