The Coos County chapter of Americans for Prosperity is bringing their firebrand style of politics to the valley starting with a very special Matt Rowe for Mayor Rally. The group is hoping the citizens of Coquille come out to experience this public event and learn more about this intelligent young candidate for Mayor.
I have known Mr. Rowe for several years and have been very impressed with his knowledge of local politics and political strategy. This was a skill displayed in his tenure as the editor of The Sentinel. He is educated in political science and well versed in the current process. He has expressed interest in streamlining the system to serve the public and not the city bureaucracy. His experience on the Education Service District (ESD) Board has given him the ability to see how consolidating certain positions, combined with staff sharing will offer ways to save on current expenditures.
He understands the dangers of accruing too much debt and how it will become the obligation of future generations. He knows this monetary liability will act like an anchor on any financial recovery. This is a fact that seems to be oblivious to the current city administration. Mr. Rowe has promised to work at placing the city’s Urban Renewal Agency under the control of the voters, thus taking it away from wasteful politicians.
The people of Coquille deserve another choice and I sincerely hope you take advantage of this opportunity. I
do believe Matt will listen to your concerns. He’s a local boy, not some overpaid paper pushing transplant. He grew up in Coos County and knows the people and their problems. He has a good sense of diplomacy and is flexible enough to work with others, while remaining stern enough to stand up for our principles.
At the very least, you will get the chance to have some darn good Bar-B-Q served by the one and only “Big Daddy” Steve Noorlander and you might find another reason to vote this November. The alternative is you could keep the status quo, the streets riddled with potholes, a lackluster local economy, a main street lined with second-hand stores and more debt----just by keeping the same people in office. It is America and it is your choice, so make it a good one.
The AFP always has very respectful events, so feel welcome to bring the family out to the Owen Building in Coquille, Saturday September 15 at 5:00 pm. There will also be updates on The Bandon Marsh Expansion and information on other issues concerning the voters of Coos County. This is a Potluck Dinner, so remember to bring your favorite dish.
