it comes to reporting on the real situation occurring in the marsh. Mr. Ed Horvath has been one of the few professionals to have the facts right, so we are going to shed the light on the marsh...Rob T.
Message from a Watchdog in Bandon:
I just wanted to let you know that I have talked to Dave Ledig, Mike Grey, John Sweet, Nikki Zogg, Ken Phippen, the Bandon city manager (Matt ?) and basically the response I am getting is that while I have valid concerns and they agree my questions deserve consideration it's more important to appease the public than it is to provide any sort of scientific data to back up their claim that we have a "emergency situation".
This is the catch phrase that is enabling them to skirt around the normal processes of Conservation plans and why NMFS & ODFW are claiming that "their hands are tied". I have yet to figure out what constitutes the use of the term "emergency" since there are no reported cases of Malaria or West Nile to the CDC, but it is definitely the word of the day.
John Sweet seems to have quite a bit of hostility towards Ed Horvath and told me that my information was nothing but a bunch of crap and that I don't know anything.
I obtained the MSDS from the Dibrom, which clearly states it is TOXIC to fish and other wildlife species. Of course John Sweet, Nikki Zogg, and Dave Ledig all knew I would find this easily and informed my that it doesn't matter because they are using the "lowest possible concentration". However, both Dibrom and Meta-larv are growth inhibiting pesticides and the effects may not show up until the next generation or even the one after that.
What really pisses me off is that they are choosing to introduce this pesticide into the mouth of the Coquille River at the beginning of salmon season, just in time for the fish to ingest/digest the chemical and carry it on them or in them up the watershed and potentially contaminate their offspring!
I plan on spending every possible minute of Monday contacting shorebird, honey bee, crustacean, etc. organizations and asking them to speak out against this "solution" to the mosquito problem. I want USFWS to take physical and monetary responsibility for their actions, not just pollute my watershed and show up in 2
years going "OMG where are these non-target species".
Anyway, I'm really trying to encourage the powers to be to opt out of the pesticides.
Let me know if there is anything else I should be doing or anyone else you think needs spoken with as well as what you and Bonnie found in Coquille.

Not sure if you plan on attending mtg on Monday. I plan to be at your lawsuit mtg later this month. I've heard some rumblings about this spraying and cannot BELIEVE IT! But I can believe it for all of our green friends. Guess they like wearing DEET more than spraying. The article quoted here stated there was nothing at the beaches or in town about mosquitoes which is a total lie. I got swarmed the other day at Bullards when I parked to walk my dog and I was coated in DEET. Yeah no problem. I spoke with Dave Ledig the other day and apparently the ditch digging is planned for spring 2014 which I was surprised to hear about. I'm very curious if Mike Keizer has utilized lawyers to get some action out of USFWS? I cannot believe he is happy about this situation getting out to the golf community anymore than it already has. Fritz has been driving and picking up and dropping off people and a number of times swarmed. The Dines is supposed to host another big golf tournament in 2015 which if things aren't abated now and held over to 2014 they will be behind the power curve on planning in 2015.
Okay that's my rant. Thanks for all you're going.
